When we view a great piece of work or an awesome performance, our thumbs raise almost instantly. It is one of the most common ways to show our appreciation. Even the facebook “like button” has Thumbs Up symbol. But it is not received the same way in some parts of the world.

In Nigeria, South America and several other parts of the world, think before you raise the thumb. It will be interpreted as an offence and you may get hard knocks for your action.

What do you do when you meet someone and say, “Hello! How do you do?”. As far as the common greeting etiquette goes, you shake hands. Be it a man or woman, it’s your habit to be polite and shake hands without any intention.
But in Saudi Arabia, it’s a blasphemy to shake hands with the opposite gender.

Fabulous dress, Fantastic movie, or anything fantabulous, our three fingers go up as a gesture of appreciation. But the same gesture will leave a bad impression in some states of Brazil. According to some Brazilian traditions these gestures have strong negative connotations.

In the western world, crossing your middle finger and index finger is a gesture for good luck. But not so in Vietnam, it’s an obscene gesture. So crossing your fingers are completely no no for you in Vietnam.

Usually, when your little finger is up it means you need to relieve your bloating bladder. However, in Japan it is perceived as a derogatory remark is considered as a rude gesture in Mediterranean countries.
